EMUSJ Children Camp 2009

As a practical student in my year end ministry, attending the Children camp in EMUSJ was one of my ministry in the church. It was a 3 days and 2 night’s camp in church. The Sunday school superintendent approached me 2 weeks ago! And asked me whether i could be the teacher for one of the group for the children camp. This is the first time that i was involved in the children ministry's children's camp. I thought that it will be a good experience for me to learn! Initially there were only 4 groups but because the number increased in the registration they had to add another group which was my group! i was given only 1 week to prepare for it, was given a children dance DVD and i need to choose one dance to teach the children in my group. The theme for the children camp was "I am the best" and my group name was "wipe, wipe, wipe" (in Mandarin)

The camp main language was in Chinese... my group we used both English and Chinese to communicate. I had 2 helper and another teacher to help me out in teaching and guiding the group! on the first day, Friday 4th Dec, we had to come out with our own slogan cheer and clap for the group, that was not an easy task because i wanted it to be in Chinese and with my half pail full water in Chinese this was not an easy job, but i thanked God that one aunty came and helped my group out and created the cheer and clap. During the duration of the camp, i was requested to sleep in the church with the boys. They were so hyper-active that the boys went to bed at about 1am and they woke up at 4am! i couldn't believe it.... don the children ever sleep? there are 2 boys who did not sleep at all... they were walking in and out of the room... jumping and just walking... one of them gave a reason that he drank coffee so couldn't sleep!??? so i slept for only 2 hours that night!!! there was another uncle what was also sleeping together with the boys! he too did not have a good sleep! woke up with his eyes red!

Goodies for the children as marks for the camp!

Before all arrive!

A total of 61 children

Making their own name card!

Creating our slogan cheer: morning wipe window, afternoon wipe table, evening wipe chair, everything i wipe myself, do not let kakak wipe, I am the best!

Group game! mind teaser!

The next day, Saturday, was a busy and packed day for the children and the teachers! there was 2 story telling by the speaker "You are special by Max Lucado" and "Lulu the carefree Zebra" haha.... nice story to tell the children! the meals for lunch and dinner was prepared by the children! they really have a nice time cooking! as teacher i do not know how to help in this area but i have helpers to teach them how to cook! especially when they are using the knife to cut the onion and garlic! have to tell them to be careful of the knife! some of us teacher wouldn't last the whole day so we were given 1 hour to rest! but i just had only 30 mins! because during the rest the children are doing the chicken dance.... haha..... for dinner, the children have to go out to the nearby supermarket to get their ingredients for dinner! i think they had a good time shopping and then went back to church to cook dinner! i had a better rest that night better than the first night!

Morning exercise! everyone wants to be kung fu fighting! HA! HO!

Preparing lunch! cutting onions! be careful with the knife!

Cooking!

Our lunch! its good!

My group with our lunch! hehe....

Teaching the dance!

What are they doing?

Can u guess?

yeah! the chicken dance!

Shopping for dinner!

Hey! i also need to learn how to cook wan!

future chefs!

She is enjoying what she cooked!

interpreting the story of Lulu the carefree zebra!

the night ends with treasure hunt for 17 pieces of memory verse that we need to arrange together and memorize!

Sunday, the last day! i was rushing the children to practice the dance and there was a drama about "you are special" that we need to present! so the hard part was to call all of them to come and sit still just to listen to us as we teach! i have to shout and catch one of the boy in my group to make sure he sit still... the children in my group was also quite young! but the group leader helped me a lot as to organize everything! i couldn't do much anyway because i have only 2 days to teach and train them in the dance and drama!!! the end of the camp, parents were invited to come and join the children as every group presents their slogan cheer, 爱的鼓励, the dance and the drama.

Our dance presentation!

It was really an exhausting camp especially dealing with children. It was a good experience and i should say it was fun for the children but tiresome! at the end... my group got the best team work effort! haha.....

Youth Ministry 青少年事工

So i have been posted to EMUSJ (USJ 衛理公會)! i've been going to church for "work" reading books and preparing for the youth ministry that was assigned to me by the church pastor. One of my ministry here in USJ is to train the youth for the coming christmas caroling! Last Sunday, there were about 20 youths present for the caroling training. The youth are different here in USJ not like in my own church where by the youths are active and full of energy! maybe because i am new to them so they keep quiet and show respect! haha.....

I met some old friends USJ members in church last Sunday, we talked and fellowshipped after service to catch up on what is happening in our lives. So much has changed in USJ. The Chairman of the church who is also the mission coordinator asked me to help in the training for the forthcoming mission trip which the church will be sending a team to Mersing, Johor to Rev. Lieow's ministry with the orang asli. I need to prepare some songs and also maybe a drama as presentation to encourage our brother and sister in Christ in the Orang Asli settlements in Mersing and Endau.

Hopefully in these 2 months i will be able to learn and experience serving in the church and help out whatever i can in the church ministries!

The holiday!

At the last day of the semester in STM... i was involved in the graduation service as an usher and in the choir.. it was packed with people, relatives and friends of the graduating students! I met Pr. YH that day and we talked a bit regarding my 2 months practicals in EMUSJ! that day was one of the tiring day i had in STM! My plan was to go back after dinner that day and join my care group back in Subang Jaya. well, it ended with a not so encouraging evening when my friend send a disturbing sms to me by forsaking him and not asking him out for dinner... some of my classmates console me and tell me to forget about it! after all, i did not do anything wrong..

My two weeks of holiday started off with CC's ROM (Registration of Marriage) in Putrajaya... as usual we took pictures and we went for lunch in Alamanda Putrajaya... after that the rest of the week was kinda boring cause i just stayed at home and rested!

Donno why cc and i have the urge to play snooker! haha.... we went out thinking of where to play.. so we decided to go to Sunway Pyramid for the game of snooker! unfortunately, shorts and slippers are not allowed to enter because CC was wearing his 3/4 pants! but 4 days before his wedding, he want to buy a new shirt for his wedding dinner so we went back to Pyramid to shop for his shirt and then we got to play a few rounds of snooker after that... it really bring back old memory and the old skills in snooker i once had is rusty because i was making a lot of fault balls in the game!

On Thursday 29th Oct, A highlight in my holiday, i went down to Melaka for a day trip (evening trip) not knowing the way to go there to the hotel SC was staying... i went down with a few pages of map downloaded from Google map... amazing what you can do on the internet!! met SC there because she was attending a Leadership seminar in Melaka... what did we do there? just drive around melaka.... walk around the shopping complex that was just opposite the A Famosa (do not remember what is the name) there are a lot of changes there its been a long time since the last time i visited the place... after that we went for a meal, Capitol Satay Celup not hard to find! just turning round and round to look for a suitable parking spot! The next day, we went out to Pyramid played Ice-skating together! i can't move smoothly like last time i played ice-skating! maybe due to my weight! :P later we went to Bandar Utama to Canaan Land and browse through some books then later that day send her to Pudu bus station!

Another highlight of my holidays was CC's wedding! look at us the whole group! the sisters and the brothers! the whole of Saturday i was busy! fetching people and helping out in his wedding day! Gave a speech as a best man for his wedding dinner as well!

Now after 2 weeks of holiday sleeping at home! I am in EMUSJ church preparing for my youth work with the youths and looking for information and inspiration for the Youth Camp messages as well! preparing for December's caroling! Sunday School's VBS and other things!

Cheers to everyone of my STM mates who are now everywhere serving our Lord in their practicals!

Exegesis Completed!

Consider your calling, brothers!!
not many of your were wise according to the worldly standard
not many were powerful
not many were of noble birth

But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise;
God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong;
God chose what is low and despised in the world,
even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are,
so that no human being might boast in the presence of God.

And because of him you are in Christ Jesus,
who became to us wisdom from God,
righteousness and sanctification and redemption,
so that, as it is written, "Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord."
1 Corinthians 1:26-31

Remember your calling! you were divinely called by God... you were chosen by him... by his grace and his divine election....

so my brothers! do not boast in the presence of God... for whatever you have all comes from God.. he choses us as an instrument to perform his tasks and all glory shall be given to Him...

it is because of His grace and mercy that we are in Christ Jesus... He is the wisdom of God... through Him we are saved, cleansed and brought over from sin!

Therefor let us Boast in the Lord! and His name shall forever be glorified! Amen

Counting my days!

The end of the 2nd semester in my first year here in STM!

This is my last week of classes! most of the classes will end this week and next week will be the study week break before the exams! After the exams its 2 weeks holiday for me and time for me to prepare myself for the two month practicals which is yet to be revealed to me!

Time really passed by fast! its already been 1 year of studies in STM... in this year, many many things happen and many many new things that i've learned either from the classes or from interaction with fellow seminarians! Gained a lot of new friends too.... some are geeky! some are out going! and some really suck all the energy away from me when i would just want to be silent! :P but they are all good friends to have! hehe....

Next year, will be upgraded and no more a freshie! haha.... 2nd year student! quite a burden to carry thats when the first years will come and look for me if there is question or getting used to the environment in STM! it is a cycle that every student here faced! Hopefully, my room mate next year will be a good one that can tahan my music when i sleep at night!

Counting the days till my best friend's wedding! after his marriage... i'll be the only one left single in our group! :( i remember the times when we go hang out together and jam in a studio together... and now they are all happily married! to say that i will not be left out is an understatement because these feelings will still be there.... but i have to overcome these feelings! recently, i got in touch with my classmate from my secondary school days! and i was also shocked to hear that he too was married! haha..... am i the only one in my age that is still single? who knows... i'll just have to depend on God and His timing for me! who knows that God will bless me with a person that will suit me and the ministry that God have planned for me!

Teach me to number my days aright,
that I may gain a heart of wisdom. Psalm 90:12

求你指教我怎样数算自己的日子,

好叫我得著智慧的心。

Compare??

2 Corinthians 10:12 (New International Version)

12We do not dare to classify or compare ourselves with some who commend themselves. When they measure themselves by themselves and compare themselves with themselves, they are not wise.

Douglas came and approach me one day and asked me how is my practical ministry in Kepong Church. Well, I replied that I am doing well and helping out what I can do. Douglas told me that I should do an extra mile in the the ministry because the supervisor was comparing you with the other 3rd year student that is serving in the same church.

I was really down when i heard that I am being compared in the ministry with another person. For sometime I am feeling dishearten about the information from Douglas. It has always been like this ever since I was young, people has been comparing me with someone that were better than I am. In my studies and in my secular work. Sometimes I really feel insignificant and couldn't reach the level of expectation of others.

This is what the world is like, anywhere you go, there are people who will make comparison in the things you do. Yes! even in God's ministries. I realized that it is not worth my time to feel that way.I know that whatever I am doing, I am serving my God because of His love for me.

I know there are Christians outside who are facing the same problem as I am. Just an encouragement to you, remember that you are serving God not man. No matter how man compares you with other people just take note of it and strive to serve God with all our Heart, Soul and Strength. In the End, we are pleasing God not man! But do not take it for granted because this will lead us into not doing our best for God.

I told Douglas, If my supervisor were to compare me with the 3rd year student, I've got nothing to say because she is from a Chinese background and could read and speak mandarin better than i do. Definitely she will be able to do more thing than me and moreover, she have a pastoral background before she came to STM.

Dead Sea Scroll / Singapore / JB trip

Yoshua: Why make that effort to go down to Singapore to see the Dead Sea Scroll (DSS) exhibition? it is just tiny fragments that they are bringing over!
Me: I don't think I've got the chance to go to Israel and look at it. Since they are bring it over why not go and see it? Rabbi said that if got chance just go and see!
