Youth Ministry 青少年事工

So i have been posted to EMUSJ (USJ 衛理公會)! i've been going to church for "work" reading books and preparing for the youth ministry that was assigned to me by the church pastor. One of my ministry here in USJ is to train the youth for the coming christmas caroling! Last Sunday, there were about 20 youths present for the caroling training. The youth are different here in USJ not like in my own church where by the youths are active and full of energy! maybe because i am new to them so they keep quiet and show respect! haha.....

I met some old friends USJ members in church last Sunday, we talked and fellowshipped after service to catch up on what is happening in our lives. So much has changed in USJ. The Chairman of the church who is also the mission coordinator asked me to help in the training for the forthcoming mission trip which the church will be sending a team to Mersing, Johor to Rev. Lieow's ministry with the orang asli. I need to prepare some songs and also maybe a drama as presentation to encourage our brother and sister in Christ in the Orang Asli settlements in Mersing and Endau.

Hopefully in these 2 months i will be able to learn and experience serving in the church and help out whatever i can in the church ministries!

The holiday!

At the last day of the semester in STM... i was involved in the graduation service as an usher and in the choir.. it was packed with people, relatives and friends of the graduating students! I met Pr. YH that day and we talked a bit regarding my 2 months practicals in EMUSJ! that day was one of the tiring day i had in STM! My plan was to go back after dinner that day and join my care group back in Subang Jaya. well, it ended with a not so encouraging evening when my friend send a disturbing sms to me by forsaking him and not asking him out for dinner... some of my classmates console me and tell me to forget about it! after all, i did not do anything wrong..

My two weeks of holiday started off with CC's ROM (Registration of Marriage) in Putrajaya... as usual we took pictures and we went for lunch in Alamanda Putrajaya... after that the rest of the week was kinda boring cause i just stayed at home and rested!

Donno why cc and i have the urge to play snooker! haha.... we went out thinking of where to play.. so we decided to go to Sunway Pyramid for the game of snooker! unfortunately, shorts and slippers are not allowed to enter because CC was wearing his 3/4 pants! but 4 days before his wedding, he want to buy a new shirt for his wedding dinner so we went back to Pyramid to shop for his shirt and then we got to play a few rounds of snooker after that... it really bring back old memory and the old skills in snooker i once had is rusty because i was making a lot of fault balls in the game!

On Thursday 29th Oct, A highlight in my holiday, i went down to Melaka for a day trip (evening trip) not knowing the way to go there to the hotel SC was staying... i went down with a few pages of map downloaded from Google map... amazing what you can do on the internet!! met SC there because she was attending a Leadership seminar in Melaka... what did we do there? just drive around melaka.... walk around the shopping complex that was just opposite the A Famosa (do not remember what is the name) there are a lot of changes there its been a long time since the last time i visited the place... after that we went for a meal, Capitol Satay Celup not hard to find! just turning round and round to look for a suitable parking spot! The next day, we went out to Pyramid played Ice-skating together! i can't move smoothly like last time i played ice-skating! maybe due to my weight! :P later we went to Bandar Utama to Canaan Land and browse through some books then later that day send her to Pudu bus station!

Another highlight of my holidays was CC's wedding! look at us the whole group! the sisters and the brothers! the whole of Saturday i was busy! fetching people and helping out in his wedding day! Gave a speech as a best man for his wedding dinner as well!

Now after 2 weeks of holiday sleeping at home! I am in EMUSJ church preparing for my youth work with the youths and looking for information and inspiration for the Youth Camp messages as well! preparing for December's caroling! Sunday School's VBS and other things!

Cheers to everyone of my STM mates who are now everywhere serving our Lord in their practicals!

Exegesis Completed!

Consider your calling, brothers!!
not many of your were wise according to the worldly standard
not many were powerful
not many were of noble birth

But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise;
God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong;
God chose what is low and despised in the world,
even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are,
so that no human being might boast in the presence of God.

And because of him you are in Christ Jesus,
who became to us wisdom from God,
righteousness and sanctification and redemption,
so that, as it is written, "Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord."
1 Corinthians 1:26-31

Remember your calling! you were divinely called by God... you were chosen by him... by his grace and his divine election....

so my brothers! do not boast in the presence of God... for whatever you have all comes from God.. he choses us as an instrument to perform his tasks and all glory shall be given to Him...

it is because of His grace and mercy that we are in Christ Jesus... He is the wisdom of God... through Him we are saved, cleansed and brought over from sin!

Therefor let us Boast in the Lord! and His name shall forever be glorified! Amen

Counting my days!

The end of the 2nd semester in my first year here in STM!

This is my last week of classes! most of the classes will end this week and next week will be the study week break before the exams! After the exams its 2 weeks holiday for me and time for me to prepare myself for the two month practicals which is yet to be revealed to me!

Time really passed by fast! its already been 1 year of studies in STM... in this year, many many things happen and many many new things that i've learned either from the classes or from interaction with fellow seminarians! Gained a lot of new friends too.... some are geeky! some are out going! and some really suck all the energy away from me when i would just want to be silent! :P but they are all good friends to have! hehe....

Next year, will be upgraded and no more a freshie! haha.... 2nd year student! quite a burden to carry thats when the first years will come and look for me if there is question or getting used to the environment in STM! it is a cycle that every student here faced! Hopefully, my room mate next year will be a good one that can tahan my music when i sleep at night!

Counting the days till my best friend's wedding! after his marriage... i'll be the only one left single in our group! :( i remember the times when we go hang out together and jam in a studio together... and now they are all happily married! to say that i will not be left out is an understatement because these feelings will still be there.... but i have to overcome these feelings! recently, i got in touch with my classmate from my secondary school days! and i was also shocked to hear that he too was married! haha..... am i the only one in my age that is still single? who knows... i'll just have to depend on God and His timing for me! who knows that God will bless me with a person that will suit me and the ministry that God have planned for me!

Teach me to number my days aright,
that I may gain a heart of wisdom. Psalm 90:12

求你指教我怎样数算自己的日子,

好叫我得著智慧的心。

Special food today!!!

The queue was long and everyone desires to taste the special food! faster grab a plate and utensils!! the queue was long even before the bell ring!

Mine.... fusion of Fried Rice and Chicken Chop!

this is the first time that i took a picture with the food in STM!

There will be another special meal next month! Spaghetti!! although spaghetti is not my favorite but having one in a while i can live with!! something for a change instead of having chinese style with rice for all the meals!

A busy week!

Starting on Monday.. I have registered to join the voice training and choral conducting class tought by Mrs. Simon Chan. Everyday this week there are classes from 5 pm to 7pm! its going to be a long week this week learning how to sing properly by standing properly without bulging my tummy out!

i've learn a lot for the pass 2 days! especially in the conducting class. she teaches how to do an audition and placing people in their parts as well! so i think it will be a productive week although it will be a very rush and tiring week for me!

Compare??

2 Corinthians 10:12 (New International Version)

12We do not dare to classify or compare ourselves with some who commend themselves. When they measure themselves by themselves and compare themselves with themselves, they are not wise.

Douglas came and approach me one day and asked me how is my practical ministry in Kepong Church. Well, I replied that I am doing well and helping out what I can do. Douglas told me that I should do an extra mile in the the ministry because the supervisor was comparing you with the other 3rd year student that is serving in the same church.

I was really down when i heard that I am being compared in the ministry with another person. For sometime I am feeling dishearten about the information from Douglas. It has always been like this ever since I was young, people has been comparing me with someone that were better than I am. In my studies and in my secular work. Sometimes I really feel insignificant and couldn't reach the level of expectation of others.

This is what the world is like, anywhere you go, there are people who will make comparison in the things you do. Yes! even in God's ministries. I realized that it is not worth my time to feel that way.I know that whatever I am doing, I am serving my God because of His love for me.

I know there are Christians outside who are facing the same problem as I am. Just an encouragement to you, remember that you are serving God not man. No matter how man compares you with other people just take note of it and strive to serve God with all our Heart, Soul and Strength. In the End, we are pleasing God not man! But do not take it for granted because this will lead us into not doing our best for God.

I told Douglas, If my supervisor were to compare me with the 3rd year student, I've got nothing to say because she is from a Chinese background and could read and speak mandarin better than i do. Definitely she will be able to do more thing than me and moreover, she have a pastoral background before she came to STM.

Dead Sea Scroll / Singapore / JB trip

Yoshua: Why make that effort to go down to Singapore to see the Dead Sea Scroll (DSS) exhibition? it is just tiny fragments that they are bringing over!
Me: I don't think I've got the chance to go to Israel and look at it. Since they are bring it over why not go and see it? Rabbi said that if got chance just go and see!

With that tought, i travelled down to JB from Seremban and stayed with Thomas (Johor friend from DGC) whom hosted me in his house the last trip i went to JB. It took 4 Hours from seremban to JB because the bus went to Tampin to pick up some more passangers! When i reach JB, Sab took me out for JB Bak Kut Teh! :P

The taste is different from Klang's! got special taste la... but i still prefer Klang's!

nothing is a Free Gift! quoted from Nicky Gumbel from the Alpha course.. :P cause after the meal.. i have to work! went to Sab's house and help her with her computers installing the Anti-Virus and solving some of her problems and trying to answer her questions! haha.... Joined her and DGC for Alpha course conducted in the church... talking about Faith! At night, went back to Thomas' house, shared, and talked a while before going to bed!

The next morning! 27th Sab over slept! hehe... her cousins went to her room and disturb her sleep... when she came and picked me up! she's still sleepy! haha... help her went shopping for DDR notebook ram! cause its the first model of the DDR and hard to find! at last we found a shop and got it for her notebook! Journeyed to SG after dropping her notebook back at her house! go through both the immigration and took the MRT to City Hall and walked to The Art house at the Old Parliament Road...

The leaflet that was given at the entrance to the Exhibition!

Some Replicas of the Ancient Israel's pottery!

The Hebrew Torah!

The replica of the Hebrew scroll!

We were in the exhibition from 2pm to 4pm! there were a lot to see... mostly old bibles and history of the English bibles! more pictures in my Facebook!

Well... i was in SG for the whole day! after the exhibition we went walk around at Citylink at City Hall. Ate ice-cream there also! hehe....

The SG scenery!
The Ice-cream!

Met YP at Bugis....had dinner together with YP and Sab at Mos Burger!!!

I had a good time talking with YP! asking her about her studies and also her new life in NTU! haha... after that we went walking and shopping in Bugis street... and Niki came join us at Mos Burger! after YP left went back to NTU.... i continued walking in Bugis with the ladies! haha... they really went into all the shop! haha..... after the whole day! went back to Thomas' house about 12am! really tiring cause walk the whole day!

Nokia and Notebook?

Whoa... Nokia is engaging into the notebook market? can they compete with the existing notebook giants in the markets? who knows right!! from the look of the picture! it looks kinda nice right! haha.... this model is named Nokia Booklet 3G, 10" Display, with an aluminum chassis only .79" (2 cm) thick that weighs only 2.75 lbs (1.25kg), built-in 3G, HSPA, A-GPS, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, webcam, SD card reader, HDMI output. It is powered by Intel Atom and it is a window based notebook! one question, nokia is the manufacturer for mobile phones... so does this notebook also comes with voice call?? haha...... wouldn't know until nokia officially launch it in September 2 this year!!

The reading week!

It's been a while since i last blogged, time really passes by quickly and now there are 2 months left till the end of my second semester. what will be of me during the year end break? a lot of people asked me this question, well... i am a seminary student now.. so year end for 2 months i'll be attached to a Chinese Methodist Church for practicals. Which church? well.. i seriously do not know! it is all in the hands of my CAC president, but i think i might have 2 weeks interval before i start my 2 months practicals... this is what i do then... have a good rest and attend CC's wedding as his best man! i wonder will i be able to follow him to KK for another round or not, this depends on my posting to my practical church! if i want to go means i need to take leave from my practical church's pastor which i do not know who or where now! so.. i'll just leave it.. when the time comes i'll know then i'll request and see!

This semester i have 5 assignment papers and 3 semester exams! i've been really busy the pass weeks getting my resources and information for my first OT assignment paper, on top of that, now i really feel the pinch in taking up Greek2 for credit. i should have listen to my pastor's advise! lol :P well, no harm learning more! I have completed my OT exegesis on Amos 7:1-9, not an easy test to work on! there are so much things to write and so much hidden meaning to it! and now with that out of the way, i need to be prepare for the next NT exegesis paper which will have much more things to write on!

This week started the reading week, hooray! no classes... time to catch up on my readings and assignments! and the canteen have been closed because of the cleanliness of the kitchen so i have to eat outside for all my meals! at lease i can take a break from taking the canteen food! hehe...

Today, came back to Seremban by KTM and as usual, the train have problems in Subang and i need to wait for 45 minutes for it! when i reached KL Sentral there i waited again for 30 minutes for the train to Seremban arrive... when will the Malaysian Transport system be more effective? who knows? they rather fight in the leadership than concern themselves with the needs of the public! I have an interesting day today, just by walking from the KTM station to the Bus station Terminal 1.. it was a good walk! I will be traveling down to JB this thursday and Friday will be going to Singapore for the Dead Sea Scroll exhibition! so i need to get the bus ticket and travel down by bus and come back by bus again to KL. Its been ages since i travel across state by bus!
The ticket that i bought! hehe... cost RM25 only to go to JB from Seremban!

After getting the ticket, went to the Terminal 1 shopping complex aka Sungai Wang of Seremban! there is the only place i can shop for my computer needs in seremban.. other places like Jusco or Seremban parade might not have the item that i need! hehe... so went and bought an anti-virus!
Jacky Chan become the face for Kaspersky anti-virus? haha.....

I donno why Jacky Chan is there... and i did not buy this anti-virus because of him although i like his movies also! i bought it because i think it is good enough as an anti-virus so i am recommending it to Sab! hehe... After walking around a while.... i walked back to KTM and went to Seremban parade! i was wondering what to eat but at last i ate in the Chicken Rice Shop! haha.... been eating there for a few times already although it is not the best!

Went back to STM after my lunch! it is so quiet! not many cars! most of the students went home! so i went to the Library the whole afternoon today! catching up on my resource gathering and reading! hehe.....

Lunch with OM!!!

Last weekend, as usual.. service in Kepong CMC. Teach in the sunday school and there was a new believer that was handled to me to have a discipliship class with him. i agree to meet up with him next coming sunday and hopefully when we interact we could find a conclusion on the metarial that we are going to use. Saturday, most of the outreach team for OCZ came back for debriefing. the team to Camerons came back. i called Sab and ask how was the outreach. She is free on sunday so i asked her to meet up for lunch but she have prior lunch appointment. interestingly, Gim ask if i would join them for lunch as they are also going to celebrate the successful completion of the OCZ event and giving Simon a birthday lunch cum party.

After Church last sunday... i have an lunch appointment with OM in 1 Utama at 12:30pm
so straight after church i go there.. parked my car and went looking for the restaurant!

Seoul Garden.. a Korean BBQ buffet! its been a while since i have a nice Korean meal.
Simon taught me how to eat korean style. Wrap the lettuce around the BBQ meat with kimchi and Korean chili sauce! yummy! i kept eating like that!!

I had a good time fellowshipping with all the staffs. the only non staff were Sab and I :P but still its a good time.. we ended at about 3pm after saying goodbyes to everyone. Sab and i went to catch a movie in GSC... we watched The Lost World!

this is a hilarious no brainer movie! we laughed at all the witty jokes by will ferrell and after the show we don get what are we watching... :P

After the show we walked around and we went to have some ice-cream! Haagen-Dass!!
we ordered banana split and share! very expensive la!

She is enjoying her ice-cream!

Met Steven who is working in Haagen-dass 1U

After that we walked around 1U and finally i send Sab to Desa Kiara at about 8.15pm! and i reached home sightly after 9pm! what a long day! haha....

Out of Comfort Zone 09

Every year OM malaysia will organise a mission conference and followed by a short mission outreach in the asia region! i've been involved voluntarily with them for sometime now.. so this year i made some arrangements to join them and help out again! Met some old friends and made some new ones! so i'll have to keep them in my contact list! hehe.... this year the theme is 'Battle 4 the Souls" with all the battle talks! the speaker was Alan Adams from Australia.

The theme talk "Battle Plan"

The conference T-Shirt (XXL could not fit laa... ) and Campbook!

I've only attended the conference for 3 days from Saturday till Monday afternoon! :( really missed being together with friends and people from different nationalities! We are all one in Christ! and i did not get to take a lot of pictures! haiz... at lease i was there for the 3 days of conference!

Time for fun and time for Work

There are times that i'm having so much fun here in the seminary! went out for food and also not mentioning eating durian here in Seremban! I've been spending a lot lately! have to really cut down on my usage! just have to kuai kuai stay in the campus and not go out every time! some more my notebook already died and i've decided to bring it back to HP and see how much for the repair! hopefully its less than 1K.. or not i'll just get a new MACBOOK maybe! hehe....

This week i went home and brought back my own PC to STM....

The PC already take the whole lot of my desk!

Kinda wierd right with my computer on my desk! well... thats just how it will be like untill i get my notebook fixed or buy a new MACBOOK... lol

Well this sem i'll be taking another 17 credit hours! 1 credit for choir and another 1 for Field Education Seminar which is just class attendance! well.. what are my subjects? let me list it out:
  • Intro to Religions
  • Greek 2
  • Exegesis Method
  • Reading and Reasoning
  • English 2
  • Evangelism in the Local Church
Good thing is that not all the class have exam at the end of the semester but have to do alot of assignments la. so have to start my readings since i have my PC with me... maybe i'll ask the librarian about bring my PC into the Library! i wonder what will everyone say! haha....

A Handicapped Student

In the begining of my second week of the second semester of studies in STM. My faithful HP TX1091AU's display flickers and hangs!! now i can't switch it on and boot up for the pass 4 days! before my sememter break my internal wifi adaptor couldn't detect and now my display! and for the last days i've been using the library internet room in orde for me to connect to the outside world! my week in STM is like a handicapped student. i cant do my assignments and i need to use my roomate's computer to print out any homework that was given to me. This week end i need to stop by back home to get my desktop and bring it back to STM.

Hmm... can i bring my desktop to the library to use? my left hand carrying the CPU, my right hand holding the LCD, keyboard and mouse, with my backpack at my back! walking from the dorm to the Library! hahaha... wierd! mybe that's how the student in the pass used to do it! lol

well... i'll just have to work on the assignments in my room which is just like an oven in the evening where the sun shine directly at the room window! and i won't be able to carry my computer to the lecture / class room to type notes.. so i'll have to use back the conventional way and write down all the notes onto papers!

Well... I'll just have to wait until i can save enough money to bet me a new notebook or maybe i could send my HP back to the service center and ask them to diagnose the problem for me! and hopefully it doesn't cost a bomb just to fix it! :(

Genesis of the 2nd Semester

The 2nd semester begins with despair and sadness! :( The first day of the second semester begins on the monday 14th June! and i have to travel back to STM early in the morning before the sun rises! i left home at really early at 5.30am! had a good cruise towards Seremban arrived at 7am! It was a quiet day and there are program and it is compulsory for all student so i had to rush back to STM that morning!

The first day of the semester we had a quiet day! and we are not allowed to talk to anyone for the day until 2.30am... see friends also cannot say HI.. suffering! haha... came back to STM and my room was changed to the second floor with another fellow first year! the room is super duper hot in the evening cause the evening sun hits directly at the room window! and at night i sweat when i sleep! i need to get a stand fan to just blow away all the hot air!!

Tuesday started off with orientation with tons of announcements from the faculty and the student body! haha.... what a day to start classes with! the first class that i've attended was the Introduction to Religion! whoa... this lecturer we have a lot of activity to do as the course requirement and of course assignments also!

Collected my 1st sem assignments today! did quite badly on my assignments and exam.... i think i'm just on the passing for most of the subject taken in the first Semester! :( the markings are very strict especially for Intro and Survey of the Old testament! haiz... have not get my transcript yet cause one more lecturer have not hand in the result of the exams yet! sigh! have to do better in this semester so that it will not pull down too much my scores! haiz.... its just the second day! Wednesday will be another tough day with Exegesis and interpretation of the bible the whole afternoon! haiz.... Oh God give me strength and wisdom to go through this semester!!!

JB and SG

Thomas, the brother from DGC offered to host me for the 5 nights i stay in JB.

Thomas' Apartment! simple and nice!

On the 3rd June, we went to Wesley Methodist in JB
OM having Teenstreet there.. so Sab and I poped in and visit them.

On the 3rd which is wednesday, after visiting Teenstreet. We went out with Unc. Wye Choong and visited the newly completed Daya church building.. too bad i i forgot to take any pictures there.. it is a nice design like an auditorium. It was my birthday on wednesday, i did not tell Sab it was my birthday. i think she knew about it in the morning.. :P donno which sources that she heard it from. Anyway, we went to Jusco and watched Terminator Salvation! i have to explain what happen in the first episode to her cause she got no idea what is happening! haha...

We had dinner later that night in Manhattan Fish. Told her that it was my bday and i paid for the dinner... not long after that we got another ticket to watch Night at the Museum! two movies in the same day! hahaha... well.. thats how i have ended my birthday in JB! and now i'm in my 30...

The next day, Sab and I journeyed down to SG in a bus after having a meal of Kuey Teow Kia.. haha... we have to walk through the ridiculously far to reach the Malaysian Immigration just to get to the pasport terminal have to walk another round. Really do not understand what are they doing making the department so big but not user friendly at all! We took the bus to Jerong East and went to the Science center. Payed 50% discount for people who are holding the white card with malaysian passport so we went to the Snow City and the exibition in the Science center. The snow city is really small.. Genting's is even bigger! haha....

Kuey Teow Kia... yummy...

Picture taken outside the Science Center

I look bigger than the dinosour! hehe

On friday! we went to the night Safari together with Sab's brother, sister in law, her 3 young cousins and also with Hue Jin.. to take picture using flash wasnt allowed so the pictures i took couldnt see the animals! we had a fun time walking in the safari...

Sabrina and I at the Night Safari

Sabrina's cousins and I

Weekends, it was a free and easy time spend in JB. Went and eat Loi Cha then hang out in Jusco and starbucks.. attended the youth fellowship and on sunday attended the Sunday worship! the worship was simple with a chairman and also there were an open worship which i felt abit odd! hahaa.... the members (guys) will just stand up to share and worship. The pianist have to really know most of the songs because of this open worship time! after Service, i was invited to have breakfast in one of the leader's house before i journey back home with Unc. Wye Choong.
Uncle Siah chairing the Sunday Worship

Breakfast together with Mr. Lee's Family, Sabrina and Unc. Wye Choong

Journey South!

On the second day of the sixth month in the year two thousand and nine, in the morning i went down to the restaurant in Bayu Beach Resort for breakfast. I expected to be the normal Bayu Beach style breakfast with Nasi lemak, Porriage, bread and etc... I went over to the front desk to request for a taxi to Golden sand as i will be meeting Sab there! in the afternoon.. after lunch in the restaurant, a man came and asked me whether am i the one who requested for the taxi.. well, i went out with my bags and the taxi was a C-Class! haha... just a 10min to travel in style to Golden Sands! :P

From Golden Sands, i traveled with Sad on her van! yes... a church van and we head down to Malacca on the trunk road for Cendol reconmended by one of her church member. Reached Jonker Street in Malacca... i don remember that i've been here before!

Very chinese! Jonker Street..

Walking towards our destination... the Cendol!

The cendol shop in Jonker street! packed with people...

Look at the delicious gula melaka! yummy...

I passed by this building... i stared at it for a while because it looks so fimiliar!!!
The moh moh cha movie acted by Richie Ren and Sammy Cheng!! haha....

Continue the journey after that from Malacca straigth towards Johor Bahru!! reached there about 8:30pm. Sab and I was hungry then,... went around looking for place to eat.. she also donno where to eat.. so we end up in this Moonlight Cafe which was the famous hangout place for Daya members!

She looks so tired after driving the whole day!!! :P

I ordered the Marmite Chicken rice! yummy...

Thus this ends my Journey South..
